Blood Type: B Birthday: April 20th Zodiac: Taurus Dominant Hand: Right Play Type: Serve and Volley Technique: Techuu Ate, Tsuna Watari Favorite Food: All Family: Father (*deceased), Mother (Hotaru), 2 younger brothers (twins Kai and Kirin) Superiority Complex... “a way to hide or compensate for feeling of inferiority.” Marui had always seemed arrogant and brimming with self-confidence. Although his laid-back and playful nature made him popular among his peers, there are few people who were able to look past this facade. Unknown to many, he grew up being harshly criticized by his dad and grandmother, making Marui suffer from insecurity as a child. It was when the twins were born that the desire to be a brother they could look up to woke in him. Marui made himself believe that he is so much better than their words and strove hard to prove himself right. |
 | graduation and beyond... ★ It wasn’t surprising that he decided to take up Culinary Arts, specializing on Baking and Pastry Arts with minor on Business Management for college. His first year was spent all in good fun, as living in dorms, he finally gained freedom from disapproving eyes. Halfway in sophomore year, however, a careless mistake on Marui’s part led to the death of his dad. A bad case of food allergy. Although Marui was proved innocent, he was still shaken by the event. As a form of defense mechanism, Marui spent all his time partying and fooling around to escape guilt. It wasn’t until when his mother collapsed from overwork and the twins refused to meet him that he decided to change. Marui still dislikes physical work, but with the sudden death of his father, he was forced to look for work to help support his family. The responsibility of being ‘the man of the family’ suddenly thrust into him, Marui finally matured enough to tone down his arrogance for a bit after seeing how hard his mother worked to provide for him and the twins. Fortunately, Marui was able to find a job in a well-known bakeshop. Doing the thing he loved, it doesn’t feel like work at all. |
| ★ high school life... Shortly after Marui’s middle school graduation, his grandmother died and his dad was transferred to Aichi Prefecture. The move was so sudden, that Marui never even got the chance to say goodbye to the other Rikkai regulars. He was nothing short of devastated when he found out he lost his phone where he kept his contacts. At first, he tried to travel back to Kanagawa, but after failing to meet any of the others repeatedly, he knew he had to stop coming over. Marui’s personality remained unchanged throughout his high school life, still being the playful, overconfident teen that he is. He became popular in school, gained many friends, but he wasn’t really comfortable with them, missing the bond he shared with his former teammates. His dwindling interest for tennis was probably the most dramatic change in him, as all his attention went to the other love of his life: food, desserts in specific. He spent most of his free time in a kitchen instead of the tennis courts, holding a rolling pin instead of a racket. Despite his dad’s disapproval and discouragement, Marui continued baking, finding his true genius in it. |
trivia... ★ ̽̽ Although he loves going out on parties and likes flirting with others, he was secretly a romantic at heart. He had developed a talent of escaping when it gets too serious. ̽̽ One of the results of the trauma of his dad’s death was a mild OCD. He became very particular with the food people he cares for eats, even going so far as prepare them food himself if he thinks they’re not eating right. ̽̽ His best cakes are carefully boxed and wrapped in beautiful paper and sent to the twins and his mom. ̽̽ He missed his old teammates more than he cared to show or admit. Part of the reason why he acts as if no time passed between them is to hide his joy at finally meeting them again. ̽̽ His mom, Hotaru, is like a big kid. She likes getting into her sons business, and befriending their friends. She has no talent in cooking, leading Bunta to learn how to cook. The twins are good kids, but pranksters by heart. Kai, the older twin, is loud, hot-tempered, an avid game freak, strawberry shortcake-lover. Kirin is much quieter, but dangerously scheming. He's a movie fanatic and peach mango pie-hungry kid. They both idolize Bunta a little too much. All together, the remaining Marui famly is a weird, but loving bunch. | |
